Vanished by Kristi Holl

This was a cute youth book. I downloaded the book onto my kindle thinking it was a novel for older folks but it ended up being a book for youths of about the age of 12-14.

It was a cute who done it kind of book with a girl in 6th grade investigating what happened to her roommate at a boarding school.  The van vanishes with 6 girls and the driver and no one knows what happened to it. So the little girl takes it upon herself to send emails out, after the headmistress tells the girls not to do or say anything about it.  the little girl also tells her roommates parents their daughter is missing, she calls a news investigator, and all this thinking that she was helping by getting the word out to help find these kids. all the while being yelled at by the headmistress and sometimes the parents themselves. but happily in the end the little girl does find out for herself what happened to the van and it is her plan that rescues them,

For me, it was a bit far fetched. a 6th grader doing the investigating and ultimately finding and rescuing them. but for a 12-14 year old it would be a fun book to read with a girl their age as the hero.

i rate this book a 3 only because I am a 41 year old mom and it wasn't for me

I rate it a 5 for kids 12-14 years old

Dancing in the Lowcountry by James villas

This was a really good book for me, Lots of Lowcountry history. charleston, Pawleys Island, Murrells Inlet, and myrtle beach .

Mainly this was a book about a 73 year old woman with a 40 year old Cherokee Indian companion that take a secret trip to Myrtle beach to stay at a hotel she stayed at all her life. She sneaks away from her kids whom want her to go to the doctor to get an exam because of her old age. So she stays at this hotel that doesn't change over the years called the Priscilla.

She invites her son tyler to be with her because she has some news to tell him about his life. In the meantime she meets an elderly gentlemen that she takes an interest in and ends up confiding in.  It ends up that the son, in a relationship with a man, living in new york, and a famous book writer tells her he has colon cancer. after that she decides to not let her past rule her and not to tell her son what she was going to tell him. and concentrate on just taking care of him. She does want to continue seeing this man, that lives in New Jersey with his family, and they decide to keep in touch. And that was the end of the story.

It really made you want to find out more at the end of the book. Did her companion find love again? did she and her male companion fall in love?did her son live through his colon cancer.? So it did leave you wondering at the end.

I give this book a 5
